Veridian Sight – VOL.2 ; Fractured Sight
Chapter 19: The Unseen Savior
Elias, desperate and running out of options, managed to scramble towards another glowing conduit. He threw himself forward, grabbing a piece of broken metal from a disintegrating chair and slashing it across the conduit.
Another shower of sparks erupted, and the humming of the device faltered again, its green light dimming slightly. Silas roared in fury, his strength waning with the device’s instability. He lunged at Elias with a wild, desperate swing of his knife.
Elias, his reflexes slowed by the draining effect, couldn’t react in time. The knife plunged into his side, a searing pain ripping through him. He gasped, his vision blurring, his strength fading.
Silas, breathing heavily, pulled the knife free, a triumphant sneer on his face. “It’s over, shadow man.”
But he was wrong.
Unbeknownst to both of them, Sarah, despite being ushered out of the diner earlier, had slipped back inside. Driven by desperate courage and a fierce determination to protect Martha and the others, she had hidden behind a tipped-over table, watching the chaos unfold.
Seeing Silas’s attack on Elias, a surge of adrenaline coursed through her. She saw another glowing conduit, the last one, still pulsing with energy. She grabbed a heavy metal serving tray, her hands trembling but her resolve firm.
With a cry of defiance, she charged at the conduit, swinging the tray with all her might. The impact shattered the conduit, severing the final link to the device.
The humming stopped abruptly. The green light vanished. The levitating debris crashed to the floor. The draining effect ceased.
Silas staggered, his power fading as abruptly as it had appeared. He looked around in confusion, his eyes widening in disbelief.
The police, sensing the sudden change, stormed the diner. They apprehended the disoriented Silas and his remaining crew, their resistance broken.
Elias collapsed to the floor, his blood spreading across the debris. Sarah rushed to his side, her face etched with fear and concern.
“He’s hurt!” she cried out to the approaching officers. “He needs help!”
The chaos subsided, replaced by the urgent activity of the arriving paramedics and the stunned silence of the onlookers. Clover Creek had been saved but at a cost. And the shadow who had protected them lay bleeding on the floor, his fate uncertain.
