Veridian Sight – VOL.2 ; Fractured Sight

Chapter 13: Descent into Darkness

The ventilation shaft was cramped and dusty, the metal cold against Elias’s suit. He moved with a practiced agility, his enhanced senses guiding him through the darkness. He could hear the muffled sounds from below – Silas’s harsh voice, the hostages’ terrified whimpers, the clatter of movement.

He reached a vent cover above what sounded like the main dining area. Carefully, silently, he dislodged the screws, easing the cover open just enough to peer down.

His “Veridian Sight,” was still subtly enhanced, allowing him to see through the dim interior. Silas was holding Martha at knifepoint, his cold eyes scanning the entrance. Razor still guarded the huddled hostages, while Hammer stood menacingly near the front door, a heavy-looking shotgun in his hands. Whisper was still fiddling with the device near the back, its lights blinking ominously.

Elias noted their positions, their weapons, and the layout of the room. His plan was simple: create a diversion, neutralize the immediate threats, and get the hostages out.

He took a deep breath, preparing to make his move. Just then, he heard the distinct sound of sirens approaching, growing louder with each passing second. The police were arriving.

This changed everything. Silas would be expecting a frontal assault. Elias’s stealthy entry through the ventilation shaft now gave him a crucial advantage.

He widened the opening of the vent, bracing himself. He would drop down quickly, using a smoke pellet to obscure his entry and disorient Silas and his crew.

He took one last look, fixing the positions of the hostages in his mind. Then, he let go.

He dropped silently into the darkness behind the counter, the impact absorbed by his enhanced musculature. As he landed, he released the smoke pellet, a thick cloud of black smoke billowing outwards, filling the diner.

Chaos erupted. Silas roared in surprise, Martha cried out, and the sounds of gunfire echoed through the smoke-filled room.

Elias moved, a black and white blur in the darkness, his plan unfolding amidst the chaos of his making and the arrival of the law outside.
