Veridian Sight – VOL.2 ; Fractured Sight

Chapter 15: The Sight of the Serpent

Elias moved towards Silas, his senses heightened, the lingering scent of smoke and fear filling the air. He knew Silas was a skilled knife fighter, and he couldn’t rely solely on speed this time. He needed an edge.

Taking a controlled, almost imperceptible breath, Elias subtly activated his “Veridian Sight.” The world around him shimmered, the normal spectrum replaced by the flow of energies and heat signatures. Silas’s form stood out, a cold spot in the warm chaos, the knife in his hand a sharp line of denser energy.

But it was more than just heat and density. Through the “Sight,” Elias could perceive subtle shifts in Silas’s muscle tension, the almost imperceptible flick of his eyes that telegraphed his attacks a fraction of a second before they happened. It was like seeing the invisible currents of his intent.

Silas lunged, his knife a blur. But Elias was ready. Guided by the “Veridian Sight,” he anticipated the strike, his movements precise and economical. He deflected the blade with a swift forearm block, the impact jarring but absorbed by his enhanced musculature.

He countered with a rapid series of strikes, his fists aimed at Silas’s pressure points, his movements fluid and powerful. Silas, surprised by Elias’s sudden awareness, was forced to backpedal, his attacks becoming more defensive.

The “Veridian Sight” was disorienting, the world a swirling tapestry of energies, but it gave Elias a crucial advantage in predicting Silas’s moves. He dodged a vicious thrust, using Silas’s momentum to spin him around, delivering a sharp kick to his side.

Silas grunted in pain but recovered quickly, his eyes narrowed in fury. He lunged again, a desperate flurry of knife attacks. Elias, his movements guided by the invisible currents of Silas’s intent, weaved through the strikes, each near miss a testament to his enhanced reflexes and the precognitive edge of his “Sight.”

As their duel intensified, the sounds from outside grew louder. The sirens were closer now, joined by the shouts of police officers surrounding the diner. The building was completely contained.

Suddenly, a voice boomed through a megaphone from outside. “Silas! This is the Clover Creek Police Department! Release the hostages and surrender! You are surrounded!”

Silas froze, his eyes flicking towards the windows, a look of frustrated fury on his face. He knew his plan was unraveling.

He turned back to Elias, his grip tightening on the knife. “This isn’t over, shadow man. Not by a long shot.”

Before Elias could react, Silas made a sudden move. He didn’t attack Elias; instead, he lunged towards the back of the diner, towards where Whisper had been working on his device.
