Veridian Sight – VOL.2 ; Fractured Sight
Chapter 9: Fear and Fury in the Diner
The Clover Creek Diner, usually a haven of warmth and comfort, was now a scene of terror. Silas and his crew had stormed in, weapons drawn, their faces masked. The patrons, caught off guard, were herded into a corner, their faces pale and trembling.
Martha, her hands shaking, tried to reason with Silas, her voice pleading. “Please, just take what you want. Don’t hurt anyone.”
Silas ignored her, his cold eyes scanning the room. He seemed to be looking for someone, his gaze lingering on the faces of the hostages.
Sarah huddled beside Martha, felt a wave of nausea. She couldn’t believe this was happening. Just a few nights ago, she had been attacked in the woods, saved by the mysterious shadow man. And now, she was trapped in a hostage situation, at the mercy of the same ruthless group.
Razor, the wiry woman, stood guard over the hostages, her eyes darting nervously. Hammer, the hulking brute, smashed the cash register, grabbing the money inside. Whisper, the tech expert, was busy trying to disable the diner’s security system.
Silas moved through the diner with an unsettling calm. He seemed to relish the fear he was instilling. He stopped in front of Martha, his voice a low drawl.
“Where is he?”
Martha stared at him, confused. “Who?”
“The shadow,” Silas said, his voice hardening. “The one who interfered in the woods. Where is he?”
Martha shook her head, her eyes wide with terror. “I don’t know. I’ve never seen him before.”
Silas smirked. “He’ll come. He always does. And when he does, we’ll be ready.”
He gestured to Whisper, who had finally managed to disable the security system. “Set the trap. Let’s make sure our shadow friend has a warm welcome.”
The tension in the diner was thick, suffocating. The hostages, trapped and terrified, waited for the inevitable confrontation, their hopes pinned on the arrival of the mysterious protector of Clover Creek.
