Veridian Sight – VOL.2 ; Fractured Sight

Chapter 17: The Drain’s Embrace

The high-pitched hum of Whisper’s device intensified, and the energy field surrounding the diner pulsed outwards again, this time with a visible, sickly green light emanating from within. The effects were immediate and terrifyingly familiar.

Outside, the grass beneath the energy field began to wither and turn brown, mirroring the devastation on the highway. A nearby police cruiser sputtered and died, its electrical systems failing. The officers attempting to approach the diner staggered back, clutching their heads, a wave of nausea and disorientation washing over them.

Despite the obvious danger, a small SWAT team, their faces grim with determination, made a move to breach the front entrance. They reached the door just as the energy field pulsed again, this time with a force that ripped the door from its hinges and sent it flying across the parking lot. The lead officer cried out, collapsing as an unseen force seemed to drain the energy from his body. His teammates recoiled in horror.

Inside the diner, the levitating objects began to disintegrate, crumbling into dust as their energy was violently extracted. Silas stood beside the device, his eyes gleaming with a manic triumph, seemingly unaffected by the chaotic energy swirling around him. The alien technology was empowering him, shielding him.

Elias felt the familiar draining sensation, a weakening of his enhanced vitality. His “Veridian Sight” flickered erratically, the energy patterns of the device and the surrounding field a chaotic mess. He knew he had to act fast. This device was a threat not just to the diner, but to the entire town.

Ignoring the pain and the draining effect, Elias moved towards the back of the diner, towards Whisper’s device. He had to disable it, to sever Silas’s connection to this alien power source.

Silas noticed his approach, his eyes narrowing in fury. “You won’t stop this, shadow man! This power… it will change everything!”

He raised the knife, preparing to intercept Elias, the green light from the device casting an eerie glow on his face. The final confrontation was at hand, with the fate of Clover Creek hanging in the balance.
