Veridian Sight – VOL. 4: Beyond Human Design
Chapter 8: A Fragile Survivor, Alien Signals, Whispers of Others
Elias, Brody, and Kai carefully helped Evelyn out of the dilapidated facility. She was weak and disoriented, but the warmth of their support seemed to offer a sliver of comfort in her eyes. They decided the safest course of action was to bring her back to their abandoned Chimera facility, where Aris could provide medical attention. The journey back was slow and cautious, Elias’s enhanced senses on high alert for any signs of pursuit or surveillance. Kai supported Evelyn, their shared history of captivity creating a silent bond between them.
Back at their base, Sarah’s focus remained laser-sharp on the Kryll probe. Hours of painstaking analysis of the geometric patterns and their correlation with the Project Chimera data began to yield a significant breakthrough. She noticed that certain repeating sequences of symbols consistently appeared before the “resonance markers” associated with individuals like Elias and, presumably, Evelyn. Cross-referencing these sequences with linguistic databases (even rudimentary ones of known alien encounters and theories), she found a potential, albeit highly speculative, translation. One recurring sequence seemed to translate to a concept: “Designated.” Another, preceding the resonance marker itself, appeared to mean “Echo.” The Kryll weren’t just tracking bio-signatures; they were identifying “Designated Echoes” – individuals who resonated with the alien technology in a specific way.
“Aris,” Sarah called out, her voice filled with a mixture of excitement and trepidation, “I think I’m starting to understand how they’re tracking us. It’s not just a bio-signature; it’s something more specific, something they’re calling a “Designated Echo.” This suggested a deeper level of understanding and perhaps even manipulation of the alien technology within them.
Meanwhile, Brody, leaving Elias and Kai to care for Evelyn, followed the heavy tire tracks leading away from the hidden service entrance of the old installation. The tracks were relatively recent, and deeply impressed into the soft earth, indicating a substantial vehicle. They led him through a winding path in the woods, eventually emerging onto a seldom-used logging road. Following the tracks further, he found a faint glint of metal hidden beneath some branches. It was a small, sophisticated tracking device, unlike anything he had seen before. It was sleek, black, and emitted a faint, almost imperceptible hum. Someone else was interested in the old Chimera facility, and they were using advanced technology to monitor it. Were they connected to the government, a private organization, or something else entirely? The discovery added another layer of complexity and danger to their already precarious situation.
