Veridian Sight – VOL. 4: Beyond Human Design
Chapter 4: Whispers of Dulce, Shadows of the Past
The tension in the abandoned facility thickened as Aris, his face etched with a mixture of shock and revelation, gathered the team in the main hall. The holographic display projected the intricate geometric patterns he had deciphered from the Kryll probe.
“It’s not just observing,” Aris explained, his voice hushed. “It’s transmitting and receiving data. And these… these are locations.” He highlighted two points on a projected map of the United States. “Dulce, New Mexico… and Roswell.”
A wave of unease rippled through the group. Elias felt a cold knot in his stomach at the mention of his birthplace. Sarah exchanged a worried glance with Brody.
“Why those places?” Brody asked.
“I don’t know for sure,” Aris admitted. “But Dulce has long been rumored to be a site of clandestine underground activity, even whispers of alien collaboration. And Roswell… well, that speaks for itself.”
Before they could fully process this information, Sarah stepped forward, her own findings laid out on a separate display. “I’ve been digging into the Project Chimera files related to the target coordinates. I found something… disturbing.”
She highlighted a heavily redacted log detailing early experiments. “It mentions a ‘Subject T,’ who exhibited significant energy manipulation abilities. The initial containment facility for this subject was located in the same wooded area as the coordinates the Kryll probe identified.”
Kai’s eyes widened, a flicker of recognition in their glowing gaze. “Energy manipulation… like me?”
Sarah nodded grimly. “The timeline is vague, but it seems ‘Subject T’ was one of the earliest successes in integrating alien biological material. The files go silent after a while… almost as if the subject was transferred or… eliminated.”
“Or perhaps,” Elias interjected, a sudden urgency in his voice, “they were never eliminated. Maybe they’re still there, hidden.” The thought of another individual like him, a product of the same twisted science, potentially held captive or a target, resonated deeply.
The revelations hung heavy in the air. The Kryll’s interest in specific, historically significant locations for alleged alien activity, coupled with the potential existence of another enhanced individual near their target, presented a complex and dangerous situation.
“So,” Brody said, his gaze shifting between the maps and Sarah’s data, “the Kryll might be targeting another one of ‘us’? Someone connected to Project Chimera’s origins?”
“It’s a strong possibility,” Sarah confirmed. “And if they are, we can’t just sit here.”
A debate erupted. Aris cautioned against immediate action, emphasizing their limited understanding of the Kryll’s capabilities and intentions. Brody stressed the need for caution, not wanting to stumble into an alien trap. But Elias and Kai felt a sense of responsibility, a connection to this potential “Subject T.”
“If they’re like us,” Kai said, their voice firm, “we can’t leave them to the Kryll.”
The lure of a potential rescue mission, the need to understand the Kryll’s broader agenda, and the inherent risks of both inaction and intervention weighed heavily on the team. Their investigation had just taken a dramatic and potentially perilous turn, expanding beyond the immediate threat to themselves and into the murky waters of alien intentions and forgotten human experiments.
