Veridian Sight – VOL. 4: Beyond Human Design
Chapter 17: Infiltration of Project Nightingale
Elias surveyed the heavily guarded perimeter of Project Nightingale. The security checkpoints were manned by individuals in tactical gear, armed with advanced weaponry. Confrontation was unavoidable.
Turning to Sarah and Aris, Elias said firmly, “This is going to get messy. You two stay in the vehicle. Monitor my suit cam and comms. Provide support if needed, but your priority is to stay safe.”
Sarah and Aris protested, but Elias’s gaze brooked no argument. He knew their strengths lay in their intellect and technical skills, not direct combat. In this situation, his enhanced abilities and combat training gave him the best chance of success.
He then turned to Evelyn, his expression softening slightly. “Evelyn, you said you remember this place. Do you feel well enough to help me? Any knowledge of the layout, security systems, anything could be crucial.”
Evelyn, her eyes hardening with a newfound resolve, nodded. “I remember some things… the layout of the main facility, the location of the power generators. And… there’s a weakness in the energy dampeners they used on Tempest. A specific frequency…”
Elias nodded, his mind already formulating a plan. “Good. Stay close, and tell me what you remember as we go.”
Taking a deep breath, Elias activated his suit’s cloaking system, rendering himself nearly invisible. He moved with a speed that blurred the line between human and something else, using the shadows and natural cover to approach the first checkpoint. Evelyn, though still showing signs of weakness, followed with a surprising agility, her knowledge of the facility guiding him.
Sarah and Aris watched the suit cam feed on their vehicle’s monitor, their hearts pounding in their chests. The image was grainy and distorted by the cloaking, but they could see Elias moving with incredible speed and precision, taking down guards with swift, silent strikes. Evelyn’s whispered instructions, relayed and amplified through the comms, were invaluable, guiding him through the maze of security systems.
The infiltration was a brutal ballet of speed and violence. Elias moved like a ghost, disabling cameras, bypassing sensors, and taking down guards before they even knew he was there. Evelyn, her memories of the facility sharpening with each step, directed him towards the main power generator.
“The energy dampeners… they’re tied to the main power grid,” she explained, her voice tight with a mixture of fear and determination. “If we can overload the generator, it might disrupt them.”
As Elias reached the generator room, he found it heavily fortified. However, with Evelyn’s knowledge of the facility’s layout and his own enhanced abilities, he managed to bypass the security measures and reach the core of the generator. The device hummed with immense power, the air crackling with energy.
This was it. The moment of truth.
