Veridian Sight – VOL. 4: Beyond Human Design

Chapter 9: Whispers of the Past, Signals of Pursuit

Aris, with a practiced efficiency born of his former role, began to examine Evelyn. She was severely malnourished and dehydrated, her body bearing the scars of neglect and experimentation. He set up a makeshift medical bay in one of the cleaner sections of the facility, utilizing salvaged medical supplies. As he worked, Elias and Kai sat with Evelyn, their presence a silent reassurance.

Slowly, as warmth and nourishment began to revive her, Evelyn started to speak more coherently. Her memories were fragmented and often traumatic, but she revealed glimpses of her time in the program. She spoke of other children, each with unique abilities – telekinesis, enhanced senses beyond even Elias’s, and the ability to manipulate elements. She didn’t know their fates, only that they were moved around different facilities. She remembered the symbols the Kryll probe had displayed, the “resonance markers,” and a chilling phrase the scientists sometimes used: “Harmonic Convergence.” She didn’t know what it meant, but it sounded ominous.

Meanwhile, in another part of the facility, Brody carefully examined the tracking device he had found. Its technology was unlike anything he had encountered in his years in law enforcement. He used some of Aris’s salvaged diagnostic tools, trying to understand its power source and transmission capabilities. The device emitted a faint, encrypted signal, one that his rudimentary equipment couldn’t decipher. However, he was able to determine that it was still active and transmitting its location. Someone was actively monitoring the old installation.

“Aris,” Brody called out, holding up the device, “take a look at this. Found it near the service entrance. Someone’s been watching that place.”

Aris examined the tracker, his scientific curiosity piqued despite the obvious danger. “This is advanced. Definitely not standard government issue. The energy source… it’s almost self-sustaining. And the encryption is sophisticated.” He ran a more detailed scan. “There’s a faint signature… almost… alien.”

The implication hung heavy in the air. Were they being tracked not just by human entities interested in Project Chimera, but also by the Kryll themselves, or perhaps another unknown party with access to advanced technology?

The pieces of the puzzle were slowly coming together, revealing a larger and more dangerous game than they had initially imagined. The Kryll’s interest in “Designated Echoes,” the potential existence of other enhanced individuals scattered across the country, and now the presence of a sophisticated tracking device suggested a multi-layered threat that they would need to confront from the strategic advantage of their hidden base. Their sanctuary, while its location might be known to others, would be defended fiercely.
