Veridian Sight – VOL.1 ; The Product of Evolution
Chapter 7: Elevated Observation
Elias watched as Sheriff Brody conferred with the state troopers, their expressions serious but still laced with a hint of skepticism. He knew they weren’t going to take his “alien machinery” theory seriously without concrete proof, and he wasn’t about to offer a demonstration of his marijuana-induced “sight” to a group of law enforcement officers.
He decided the best course of action was to observe, to gather more information without directly interfering. He needed a better vantage point, a place where he could see the emergency response unfold and use his “Veridian Sight” without being noticed.
His gaze scanned the area, and he spotted a small hill overlooking the highway about a quarter of a mile down the road. It wasn’t high, but it would give him a clear view of the scene.
“I’ll be around,” he said to Brody, offering a vague reassurance. “Just… keep everyone safe.”
Brody nodded, his eyes still holding that mixture of concern and polite dismissal. Elias turned and walked away from the cluster of emergency vehicles, heading towards the hill.
The climb was easy, the familiar scent of pine and damp earth grounding him amidst the growing tension. He reached the top, finding a patch of relatively clear ground nestled between some trees. From here, he had a panoramic view of the highway, the stopped traffic, and the hovering object.
The official response was underway. More emergency vehicles had arrived, and personnel in hazmat suits were cautiously approaching the perimeter of the area beneath the light. He could see them taking readings with various devices, their movements slow and deliberate.
Elias took a deep breath, his heart pounding with a mixture of apprehension and excitement. It was time to use the “Veridian Sight” again.
He pressed the button on his sleeve, the familiar hum vibrating against his neck. He closed his eyes, and the world shifted.
The visible light faded, replaced by the swirling tapestry of energies and forms he now recognized. The emergency vehicles became translucent, the hazmat suits glowing faintly with the heat signatures of the people inside.
His attention was drawn to the hovering object. Through the “Veridian Sight,” he could see that its energy signature was intensifying. The internal machinery was pulsing faster, and the shimmering layers of its outer shell were fluctuating more rapidly.
He focused on the hazmat team. Their devices were detecting something – fluctuations in electromagnetic fields, unusual radiation levels. He could “see” the readings as patterns of energy flowing from their instruments, but he didn’t understand what they meant.
Then, he noticed something else. Extending from the base of the hovering object were faint tendrils of energy, reaching down towards the ground. They were almost invisible, even to his enhanced perception, but they were there, subtly interacting with the environment.
He focused on where the tendrils touched the ground. They seemed to be… drawing something up. Not matter, but energy. A faint, almost imperceptible drain on the surrounding area.
The “sight” was becoming more intense, the information flooding in. He could see the object’s internal machinery in even greater detail now – intricate networks of conduits, pulsating energy fields, and a central core that was radiating a power he couldn’t comprehend.
He realized with a growing sense of dread that whatever this thing was, it wasn’t just observing. It was doing something. And the official response, with their hazmat suits and radiation detectors, had no idea what they were truly dealing with.
